About
Founded by Pat Bastone in 1980, in Victoria, British Columbia, the Vancouver Island Vegetarian Association (VIVA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting local vegetarian education, services, events and benefits to our community.
VIVA provides information on the compassionate, nutritional, ecological, and aesthetic benefits of a vegetarian diet. We organize activities and provide benefits for our members and the public that encourage a sense of inclusiveness, respect, and responsible behaviour toward all life. We are compassionate toward our fellow humans as we are toward other animals.
VIVA membership is open to everyone, including non-vegetarians. We believe that to encourage veganism is to celebrate diversity of opinions and lifestyles, to be inclusive and accepting while not compromising on our own beliefs.
A new board will be elected at our upcoming general meeting.
About VIVA-Raw:
VIVA-Raw is a sub-group of the VIVA with a focus on increasing the amount of raw and living vegan food in our diet via education, information, and support. See HERE for more information.
